WestConn Men’s Lacrosse’s Grove and Gitzinger collect LEC weekly awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Western Connecticut State University senior Brendan Grove (Cheshire) was honored as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week and sophomore James Gitzinger (West Islip, New York) received the LEC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week award for their outstanding play in the opening week of the 2024 season. Grove went 1-1 with a 7.50 GAA and a .643 save percentage for the defending LEC Champion Wolves. He totaled 12 saves in a 12-5 victory over Arcadia Saturday after making 15 saves in a 10-9 setback to Ursinus Wednesday. Gitzinger caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls in the non-conference win over the Arcadia Knights.  WestConn, coached by Ryan Cavanagh (8th Season), will visit Merchant Marine on Saturday, March 2, at noon in their next game.
