WestConn's Gracy and Pota collect major Little East Conference Women's Lacrosse post-season awards: Eight Wolves receive LEC All-Conference recognition

DANBURY, Conn. – Western Connecticut State University senior Vicky Gracy (Bethel) was named as the Little East Conference (LEC) 2024 Women’s Lacrosse Midfielder of the Year and WestConn freshman Isabella Pota (East Meadow, New York) was honored as the LEC Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. Gracy also joined senior Alexa Riggio (North Massapequa, New York) and freshman Anneliese Reggio (White Plains, New York) on the LEC All-Conference First Team, while Pota, senior Molly Bresnahan (Noank), junior Faye Junge (Centerport, New York), and sophomores Natalie Mazza (Putnam Valley, New York) and Madison Ratchford (Ridge, New York) graced the LEC All-Conference Second Team. In addition, senior Katelyn Contreras (Danbury) was selected to represent the Wolves on the LEC Women’s Lacrosse Sportsmanship Team. WestConn, coached by Rachael Griffith (1st Season), finished the 2024 campaign with a 12-6 overall record and won the the Little East regular season title with a perfect 7-0 mark against conference teams. The Wolves were the top seed in the LEC Championship Tournament, but lost, 13-8, to Plymouth State University in the semifinal round.

Gracy, who repeats as the LEC Midfielder of the Year and as an All-LEC First Teamer, topped the Wolves in scoring this spring with 66 points on 45 goals and a team-high 21 assists. She had one game-winning tally and a team-high eight goals on free positions to go with 28 ground balls, 46 draw controls, and 18 caused turnovers while starting all 18 games. She has been an LEC All-Academic and an LEC and Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll member several times and was a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection in 2023. A graduate of Bethel High School, Gracy is majoring in Marketing at WestConn.

Pota started all 18 games of her rookie campaign in the midfield for the Wolves and recorded a program-record 107 draw controls to go with 34 goals and 11 assists for 45 points.  She had two game-winning goals and seven free-position goals, and scooped 11 ground balls. A graduate of East Meadow High School, Pota is majoring in Exercise Science at WestConn.

Riggio notched 40 goals and 19 assists for 59 points with one game-winner and added 11 ground balls while starting all 18 games in the Wolves’ attack this spring. A graduate of Farmingdale High School, Riggio was an LEC Academic Honor Roll member this fall as a Health Promotion Studies major at WestConn.

Reggio started every game on defense in her rookie season with the Wolves, totaling 39 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers while scoring once and assisting on three other goals this spring. A graduate of White Plains High School, Reggio is majoring in Elementary Education at WestConn.

Bresnahan played all 1086 of the Wolves’ minutes in goal this spring, totaling 169 saves for a .484 save percentage and recording a 9.95 GAA with a 12-4 record. She also led the Wolves in ground balls by a wide margin with 65 and tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with 15.  A graduate of Robert E. Fitch High School, Bresnahan is majoring in Communication at WestConn.

Junge started all 18 games in the midfield and had 32 goals, tying for the team lead with three game-winners, and 17 assists for 49 points, 36 ground balls, 36 draw controls, and 10 caused turnovers. A graduate of Harborfields High School, Junge was an LEC Academic Honor Roll member this fall as a Marketing major at WestConn.

Mazza started every game on defense this spring, totaling 17 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers while scoring once on a free-position shot.  A graduate of Putnam Valley High School, Mazza has been an LEC All-Academic and Academic Honor Roll member as an Elementary Education major at WestConn.

Ratchford led the Wolves with 46 goals, tying for the team lead with three game-winning tallies, and added 12 assists for 58 points while starting all 18 games and switching between the attack and the midfield this season. She scored five times on free-position shots, picked up 23 ground balls and tied for the team lead with 15 caused turnovers. A graduate of Longwood High School, Ratchford was an LEC Academic Honor Roll member this fall.

Contreras started all 18 games in the midfield and had 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points, 22 ground balls, 33 draw controls, and 11 caused turnovers in 2024. A graduate of Danbury High School, Contreras has been an LEC Academic Honor Roll member as a Nursing major at WestConn.
