DANBURY, Connecticut — Western Connecticut State University juniors Sophie Charbonneau (Oakville, Conn.), Sarah Cipriano (Watertown, Conn.) and Diana Rebelo (Naugatuck, Conn, Conn.) were each named to the 2024 CSC Division III Academic All-District Women’s Tennis Team. All three joined fellow junior Melanie Grasso (New Fairfield, Conn.) on the 2023 Little East Conference (LEC) Fall All-Academic Team while those four juniors and Wolves sophomore Aylina Razeq (Danbury, Conn.) were also named to the 2023 Little East Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. WestConn, coached by Shawn Stillman (10th Season), finished the 2023 fall slate with an 8-7 overall record and tied with Plymouth State and UMass-Dartmouth for fourth place in the Little East with a 4-4 conference mark. The Wolves qualified for LEC Championship Tournament and downed Bridgewater State, 5-4, on the road in the opening round before falling at Rhode Island College, 5-2, in the conference semifinals. WestConn played five matches in the spring without its full roster and finished the 2023-24 season at 8-12 overall.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® women’s honorees will be announced on June 4. To be selected to the LEC Winter All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be in good standing in their sport with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
Charbonneau posted a 7-11 record in dual matches including a 7-6 mark as the Wolves No. 5 singles starter during the main competitive season in the fall. She was also 6-12 in doubles play this season with several partners. A graduate of Watertown High School, Charbonneau is majoring in elementary education at WestConn. Cipriano posted a 9-7 record in dual matches including a 9-3 mark as the Wolves’ No. 3 singles starter during the main competitive season in the fall. She was also 5-9 in doubles play this season with several partners and won four of five doubles matches with partner Natalie Paradise (Naugatuck, Conn.) as WestConn’s No. 3 doubles pair in the fall. A graduate of Watertown High School, Cipriano is majoring in elementary education at WestConn. Rebelo posted a 7-12 record in dual matches including a 7-7 mark as the Wolves’ No. 4 singles starter during the main competitive season in the fall. She was also 5-13 in doubles play this season with several partners. A graduate of Naugatuck High School, Rebelo is majoring in nursing at WestConn.
