WestConn rookie divers receive weekly awards from Little East Conference

DANBURY, Connecticut —Western Connecticut State University freshman Jayden Satir, of Greenwich, was honored as both the Little East Conference (LEC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Rookie Diver of the Week and Diver of the Week, while fellow Wolves rookie Sofia Simoes, of Watertown, was chosen as the LEC Women’s Swimming and Diving Rookie Diver of the Week for their performances in meets on January 10 and 12. The Wolves, coached by Jill Cook, are currently 5-3 in men’s dual meets and 1-9 in women’s dual meets this season.  WestConn will back in action on Friday, Jan. 19, when they host St. Joseph (Conn.) at 5 p.m.

Satir swept the LEC’s weekly diving awards for the third time this winter after he posted winning scores of 226.60 points on the one-meter board and 220.65 points on the three-meter board in the Wolves’ 102-18 victory over Mount St. Mary College on Wednesday. Satir previously collected both the LEC Diver of the Week and the LEC Rookie Diver of the Week honors on Nov. 20 and Dec. 4. Simoes was named the LEC Rookie Diver of the Week after posting winning scores in the one- and three-meter events, tallying 146.70 and 153.30, respectively, in a tri-match at UMass-Dartmouth with Plymouth State on Saturday. In the Wolves dual meet against Mount St. Mary on Wednesday, she posted a winning score of 117.75 in the one-meter and a total of 105.23 in the three-meter event.
