WCSU welcomes alumni ‘back home’ for Homecoming

DANBURY, Connecticut — After a pause in 2020 due to the coronavirus, the Western Connecticut State University Homecoming Committee is hard at work preparing for “Welcome Back Home,” the theme for this year’s Homecoming festivities, which will run from Oct. 3–10, 2021.

While the focus of the events is to welcome alumni, parents of current students and friends back to campus, most activities are open to the public as well. Attendance provides an opportunity for area residents to become acquainted with their local public university.

Alumni Pavilion/Reunion City from noon to 5 p.m. featuring the 6th Western Idol Competition, photo booth, roaming magician/balloon twister, face painting, children’s craft table, caricaturist, games/prizes, bouncy house/slide, cotton candy, entertainment by Paul Yarema ’68, DJ Sounds Unlimited, WCSU Dance Club and WCSU A Capella Group. Food offered by Sodexo including comfort food, soup, grilled cheese station, popcorn/pretzel machine, hot dog cart, wine/beer/soda/water, coffee/hot chocolate and snacks.

Reunions: Class of 1971 50th Reunion, Class of 1970 50th+1 Reunion, WCSU Nursing Program 50th+1 Reunion, WCSU Swimming/Diving 25th+1 Reunion

Also taking place during Homecoming weekend are several athletic events featuring WCSU’s NCAA Div. III teams. Women’s Field Hockey at 11 a.m., Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Soccer at noon, Women’s Tennis at 1 p.m., the Homecoming football game vs. Plymouth State University at 3 p.m., and Women’s Volleyball at 4 p.m. All of the competitions will take place on the Westside campus.

Lois Crucitti, chairperson of the 2021 Homecoming Committee, said, “We are so excited to celebrate Homecoming 2021 ‘Welcome Back Home’ at Western Connecticut State University on Saturday, Oct. 9. After a long COVID quarantine, we wish to invite the WCSU and Danbury communities to join us in this spectacular event. Homecoming has been a much-anticipated celebration with entertainment, activities, numerous food items, tailgating prior to the football game, and reunions for several different alumni groups.
