WCSU to host Open House, Preview Days

DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University will host its annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, and prospective students and their families are invited to attend. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and other representatives from WCSU’s academic programs, student groups and administrative offices. There will be a complimentary continental breakfast and tours of both the Midtown and Westside campuses.

Open House takes place in the Feldman Arena of the William O’Neill Athletic and Convocation Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Registration is required and participants may choose either a 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. check-in time. Register at www.wcsu.edu/openhouse/.

Additionally, the university will offer “Preview Day” sessions for prospective students and their families interested in specific schools or programs. Those events will be:

Saturday, Sept. 30, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.: School of Professional Studies. The SPS Preview Day is an opportunity for students who are interested in Nursing, Education, Public Health, Social Work or Criminal Justice to come to campus to learn more about these programs at WCSU. The event begins at 10 a.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The Dean of the School of Professional Studies will provide a welcome and presentation. Students and families will then be broken up by anticipated major to hear from faculty and current WCSU students. A campus tour will follow. Register at www.wcsu.edu/openhouse/.

 

Sunday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Ancell School of Business. The Ancell School of Business Preview Day is an opportunity for students who are interested in Accounting, Cybersecurity, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing and other business majors to learn more about these programs at WCSU. The event begins at 10 a.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. An Admissions Counselor and the Interim Dean of the Ancell School of Business will provide a welcome and presentation. Students and families will then hear from faculty from each major during a panel Q&A. A campus tour will follow. Register at www.wcsu.edu/openhouse/.

Monday, Oct. 9, noon to 3 p.m.: Communication, Media Arts and Creative/Professional Writing. This is an opportunity for students who are interested in Communication Studies, Media Arts, Digital and Interactive Media Arts and Professional Writing to learn more about these programs at WCSU. The event begins at noon in the lobby of Higgins Hall on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. An Admissions Counselor and the Dean of the School of Visual and Performing Arts will provide a welcome and presentation. Students and families will then be broken up by anticipated major to hear from faculty and current WCSU students. A campus tour will follow. Register at www.wcsu.edu/openhouse/.

Sunday, Oct. 15, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences. This provides an opportunity for students who are undecided on their major, or students who are interested in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, History, Mathematics, Meteorology, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology/Anthropology, Social Sciences, Spanish and other liberal arts majors to come to campus and learn more about these programs at WCSU. The event begins at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Science Building on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. An Admissions Counselor and the Dean of the School of the Macricostas School of Arts and Sciences will provide a welcome and presentation. Students and families will then be broken up by division based on areas of interest to hear from faculty and current WCSU students. Register at www.wcsu.edu/openhouse/.

Also on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Super Sunday. High school juniors and seniors interested in theatre design and technology, costumes, stage management and performance will be able to tour WCSU’s state-of-the-art Visual and Performing Arts Center, take workshops with theatre faculty, meet current students, and attend a matinee performance of “Something Rotten!
