WCSU to host information workshop for families completing Aid Application for Connecticut Undocumented Students

DANBURY, Conn. — Financial aid season is underway as new and returning college students and their families seek to obtain funds to assist with college expenses. One segment of the student population — undocumented students — until recently could not obtain access to institutional financial aid. That changed last year.

In April 2018, the Connecticut General Assembly, with the support of then-Gov. Dannel Malloy, enacted a new state law that allows undocumented students to apply for institutional financial aid. In response, the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system unveiled the Aid Application for CT Undocumented Students  (AACTUS) exclusively for a specific group of undocumented students who cannot apply for federal student aid.

The Western Connecticut State University Office of Financial Aid & Student Employment, the WCSU UndocuAlly Taskforce and CT Students for a Dream will host an information workshop for students and their families who require assistance completing the Aid Application for CT Undocumented Students. The session will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, in Room 127 of White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.

The AACTUS application requires several criteria: In order to receive institutional financial aid, students must meet certain age, residency and criminal history requirements, along with an affidavit with the institution they are attending about their intent to legalize their immigration status when they are eligible to do so.

To learn more and download the application, visit The deadline to submit the application and all supporting documentation is Friday, Nov. 1, for spring 2020 awards.
