Previous Health, Fitness and Wellness Fairs on campus have included visits by comfort dogs.

DANBURY, Connecticut — Western Connecticut State University will host its seventh annual Health, Fitness and Wellness Fair from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, on the Midtown campus at 181 White St. in Danbury. The fair will take place under a tent on the Midtown Recreation Field with activities that help relieve stress and encourage staying healthy. It will be free and open to the public.

Attendees will participate in activities such as personal training and coaching mini-sessions, chocolate meditation, posture assessment, free food, giveaways, product samples and more.

In addition to campus organizations like WCSU Health Services, AccessAbility Services, Institute for Holistic Health Studies, Career Success Center, Exercise is Medicine on Campus and the WCSU Tick Lab, community health and wellness organizations will be represented as well, including The Center for Empowerment and Education, RespeCT Nutrition/Herbalife, Hopeline, Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling, CT State Park Lifeguards, Rosenbaum Wellness, APEX Community Care, Sophia Natural Health Center, Juice Plus, Althrone Health Technologies, Turning Point Reiki, Live Your Way Thin, Dr. Boylan of Boylan Chiropractic, and Bobbi Soares from Hummingbird Yoga. Soares will bring earth gongs for sound baths. For anyone who wants to receive COVID-19 vaccinations, Griffin Health will be on site to provide them.

“Our objective is to increase awareness of topics related to health, fitness and wellness by providing activities, materials, demonstrations, screenings and information to our participants,” said WCSU Associate Director of Recreation Amy Shanks. “It is a great way for our student body to learn about all of the resources available to them on campus, as well as opportunities that are available in the community.”

A Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences (HPX) Internship Fair also will take place to showcase student interns who are completing their spring 2022 internships at locations that include Planned Parenthood, Motion Physical Therapy, WCSU Athletics, New Milford Department of Health and more.

“This event is an opportunity for students to participate in fun activities that encourage them to focus on their health,” Shanks said. “It will be a perfect time to attend the event before finals begin.”
