DANBURY, Connecticut — Longevity is something to be celebrated, and because of that, Western Connecticut State University will acknowledge more than 200 full-time employees who have 10 or more years of consecutive service at an on-campus Employee Recognition Ceremony on Friday, March 24, 2023. Forty employees will be recognized for 10 consecutive years of service, 78 employees will be recognized for 15 years of service, 48 for 20 years of service, 28 for 25 years of service and 15 for 30 years of service. Speaking of longevity, the university currently is celebrating the 120th year since its founding in 1903, which means that the 30-year employees have worked at the university for a quarter of its entire existence.

“I understand and admire the skills and determination required to enjoy a long tenure at any job,” said Interim WCSU President Dr. Paul B. Beran. “Our students have benefited from the experience these staff and faculty bring to work every day and we all appreciate their dedication to their work.”

The employees being recognized represent virtually every area of the university, including Academic Advisement, Academic Affairs, AccessAbility Services, Administrative Services, Admissions, Center for Student Involvement, Communications & Marketing, Counseling Services, Environmental & Facilities Services, Events & Conference Management, Facilities Planning & Engineering, Financial Aid & Student Employment, Fiscal Affairs, Graduate Studies, Health Services, Human Resources, Information Technology & Innovation, Institutional Advancement, Institutional Research & Assessment, Intercollegiate Athletics, Library Services, Pre-Collegiate & Access Services, President’s Office, Registrar, Student Affairs, University Police and the WestConnect Office, as well as faculty, staff and administrators from the Ancell School of Business, Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences, School of Professional Studies and School of Visual & Performing Arts.

Usually an annual event, the last time an Employee Recognition Ceremony was held on campus was in spring 2019. The arrival of Covid-19 cancelled the 2020 ceremony and because of social distancing and virtual meeting guidelines in 2021 and 2022, ceremonies did not take place. Friday’s event will mark the first in-person ceremony in four years.

The 209 employees being recognized each will receive one bonus day off, a certificate acknowledging their years of service and a commemorative pin, in addition to a buffet luncheon provided by Sodexo after the ceremony. The 15 employees with 30 years of service also will receive a gift booklet from which they can select a gift.
