WCSU hosts 7th annual lecture series on ‘Climate and Human Civilization’

DANBURY, Connecticut — To help the community understand the effects of climate change on humans, Western Connecticut State University invites the public to attend five free programs that are part of its 7th annual lecture series hosted by WCSU’s Jane Goodall Center for Excellence in Environmental Studies. The live lectures include faculty and student presenters, and will be held in the university’s Science Building, Room 125, on the Midtown campus at 181 White Street, Danbury. Masks may be required. Topics include:

  • Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 7 p.m. – “Is Climate Change a Driving Factor of Major Disasters?” presented by Allison G.S. Knox, adjunct instructor of Social Sciences.
  • Monday, March 28, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. – “Global Climate Change and Mental Health” presented by Shane Murphy, professor of Psychology
  • Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at 7 p.m. – “Instances of Environmental Justice – Struggles at Home and Abroad” presented by Manoj Misra, associate professor of Sociology
  • Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 7 p.m. – “Climate Change Related Stressors and the Physiology of Estuarine Fishes” presented by Michelle Monette, associate professor of Biology
  • Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 7 p.m. – “Hope” presented by Mitch Wagener, professor of climate ecology and Biology

“Climate change is real, and it affects all of  us. And while experts agree it is bad, there is hope, if we all act soon,” said Wagener, who is a leading speaker on global climate change.
