Owino appointed to AMS Board on Higher Education

DANBURY, Connecticut — Western Connecticut State University Associate Professor of Meteorology Dr. Albert Owino has been appointed to the American Meteorological Society Board on Higher Education. Owino has been an associate professor of Meteorology at WCSU since 2005 with backgrounds in teaching, research and operational meteorology. He also serves as director of the WCSU Weather Center.

Founded in 1919, the American Meteorological Society is a professional scientific organization that aims to advance the atmospheric and related sciences, technologies, applications and services for the benefit of society. The Board on Higher Education is a part of the AMS Education and Human Resources Commission, which reports directly to the AWS Council.

Owino graduated from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, in 1981 with a degree in Meteorology. He earned his M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of East Anglia in the U.K. and his Ph.D. in Mesoscale Climate Modeling from the University of Pune in India. Owino’s appointment begins on Jan.15, 2021, and extends through the 2024 annual AMS meeting.
