WestConn Men’s Golf places 14th in NEIGA Championships on Cape Cod

members of the Golf TeamBREWSTER, Mass. – Senior Gavin Calcavecchio (New Milford, Conn.) finished with a 12-over par 156 to tie for 35th on the leaderboard and lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a best-ever 14th-place finish in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship Tournament this weekend at The Captains Course on Cape Cod. WestConn totaled 651 (+75) as a squad to edge 15th-place New England by four strokes. for 14th of 22 teams.  Endicott won the team title at 569 and Suffolk was just in front of the Wolves in 13th place with a 637.  WestConn will compete in the Battle of Bull’s Bridge in Northwest Connecticut next on October 28.

Calcavecchio was fantastic on Saturday with a 75 (+3) and fired an 81 (+9) today.  Wolves freshman Brayden Kassel (Washougal, Wash.) was consistent with an 80 in the first round and an 81 in the second to tie for 53rd, while sophomore Tim Larson (New Milford, Conn.) improved four strokes from Saturday to Sunday with an 84 on Saturday and an 80 today.  Senior Nicholas Bedell (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Chris O’Connor (Bethel, Conn.) rounded out the Wolves individuals with a 170 and a 181, respectively.
