DANBURY, Connecticut — The Kathwari Honors Program at Western Connecticut State University will present “An Evening with Rhett Miller,” at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Tickets are available at www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-rhett-miller-tickets-1980892179834.
Rhett Miller has been described as an icon of Americana and contemporary songwriting. In addition to 13 albums with Old97s, he has released 10 solo albums — most recently “A lifetime of riding by night,” which he wrote and recorded just before undergoing and recovering from vocal cord surgery.
Miller is the creator of the Wheels Off podcast, for which he has interviewed many of the greats of contemporary Americana music as well as authors, screenwriters, comedians, designers, and other creatives about “the messy reality of creative life.” In 2025, he received with Old97s the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association.
A review of his most recent album at AmericanaHighways.com stated, “Good little storytelling, woven in with bits of piano, gratifying musicianship that grips the ear, along with the no frills Rhett Miller vocals. He sounds like he’s singing to you – not an audience. His songcraft is structured & has a nice blend of individuality.”
NashvilleScene.com noted, “Rhett Miller’s 2025 ‘A Lifetime of Riding by Night’ might be the Old 97’s singer’s most reflective album to date. Producer and Old 97’s bassist Murry Hammond adds piano and Mellotron to a set of tunes Miller renders in a modified folk-rock style, while Miller’s gift for writing deeply philosophical songs that combine alt-country narratives and pop sensibilities shines through …”
